– EMI Music Publishing will administer the catalog of entertainment company Venevision International worldwide. Venevision, which formerly administered its own catalog, brought in the major to register its copyrights and collect income from uses of its music in its TV programming, which is distributed in over 100 countries. Venevision's productions include telenovelas, talk shows and tween-oriented music shows such as “Somos Tu Y Yo.”
— Regional Mexican singer-songwriter Mariano Barba, who largely disappeared after winning four Billboard Latin Music Awards in 2007, will release his “Sigo Siendo el Primero” album Aug. 10. Barba is signed to Viva Music, which has a multiple-album license for Barba via Sony Music Latin.
The artist parted ways with supermanager Martin Fabian after his 2006 album “Aliado del Tiempo” on indie Three Sound Records catapulted him onto the charts. Barba released another album on the indie, “Nuestro Punto G,” in 2008. “Not much happened with it,” says Nir Seroussi, VP of A&R/marketing for Sony Music Latin. “He laid low for a couple of years.”
Less than a year ago, Barba began working with a new manager, Viva Music president Alberto Garcia, and released an album independently in Mexico on Viva late last year. Sony Music Latin is licensing a revamped version for the U.S. that includes new songs, including single “Libera.”
